چکیده

A transport system for glucose-6-phosphate, which is inducible by glucose-6-phosphate but not glucose or beta-glycerophosphate, occurs in a variety of bacterial genera. The correlation of the fosfomycin sensitivity with the presence of the transport system is described.

Role of the phosphotransferase system in Escherichia coli strains deficient in hexose phosphate transport.

In Escherichia coli, glucose 6-phosphate is transported via the Uhp system which is inducible by glucose 6-phosphate. We showed that, in a uhp-deficient strain, glucose 6-phosphate was dephosphorylated in the periplasm and that the resulting glucose was subsequently transported into the cells via the phosphotransferase system. The uptake of glucose generated from glucose 6-phosphate allowed the...

Characterization of a novel two-component regulatory system, HptRS, the regulator for the hexose phosphate transport system in Staphylococcus aureus.

Hexose phosphate is an important carbon source within the cytoplasm of host cells. Bacterial pathogens that invade, survive, and multiply within various host epithelial cells exploit hexose phosphates from the host cytoplasm through the hexose phosphate transport (HPT) system to gain energy and synthesize cellular components. In Escherichia coli, the HPT system consists of a two-component regul...

Transport of D-arabinose-5-phosphate and D-sedoheptulose-7-phosphate by the hexose phosphate transport system of Salmonella typhimurium.

d-Arabinose-5-phosphate and d-sedoheptulose-7-phosphate were found to be substrates, although not inducers, of the hexose phosphate transport system of Salmonella typhimurium. Transport of these two sugar phosphates by wild-type strains required preinduction of the hexose phosphate transport system. A mutant of S. typhimurium constitutive for this system also transported d-arabinose-5-phosphate...

Compartmentation in the induction of the hexose-6-phosphate transport system of Escherichia coli.

The induction of the hexose-6-phosphate transport system was investigated. Glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) at concentrations as low as 10(-4)m was able to induce this system in wild-type cells, as well as in mutants lacking phosphoglucose isomerase or G6P dehydrogenase. Growth in the presence of fructose-6-phosphate (F6P) induced the system only if the cells contained phosphoglucose isomerase. Furthe...

Isolation and characterization of mutations affecting the transport of hexose phosphates in Escherichia coli.

Mutants of Escherichia coli defective in the hexose phosphate transport system were isolated. Negative selection by penicillin treatment or positive selection with phosphonomycin was employed. These mutants grew normally on all carbon sources other than hexose phosphates. The map location of the mutations in 18 independently isolated mutant strains was investigated by transduction crosses. All ...
